Horncastle Virtual VE Day Exhibition.

This virtual exhibition has been created by volunteers from Horncastle History & Heritage Society to mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day on the 8th May 2020.

When the town’s celebrations had to be cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic we knew we couldn’t let the day go by unmarked. So we decided to collect personal memories, objects, and photos donated by the local community to share stories from the town in wartime and VE Day itself.

We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who contributed, particularly our older residents who still remember life in wartime and shared their memories of VE Day in Horncastle.

In the exhibition you’ll also find information from our own Town Archive, local newspaper reports, oral histories recorded by the Imperial War Museum, and videos from YouTube. This includes an award winning film on WW2 made by pupils from Horncastle Community Primary School back in 2013.

If you have more information or photos you’d like to share please contact us so we can make the exhibition even better.
